Gardeners, Farm Workers & Poultry Workers
Role Description
These are full-time, on-site roles at Preston International School, Akure, for dedicated and hardworking Gardeners, Farm Workers and Poultry Workers. Successful candidates will be responsible for supporting the development, maintenance and effective operation of the school's gardens, agricultural activities and poultry units, while ensuring that all areas are clean, productive, safe and properly maintained.
Gardeners
Gardeners will be responsible for the cultivation, care and maintenance of lawns, flowers, trees, shrubs and other landscaped areas within the school environment. Daily responsibilities will include watering, weeding, pruning, planting, mowing lawns, applying appropriate treatments and maintaining the general beauty and cleanliness of the school grounds.
Gardeners will also ensure that gardening tools and equipment are properly used, cleaned and stored, while observing all relevant health, safety and environmental practices.
Farm Workers
Farm Workers will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the school's farm and agricultural projects. Duties will include preparing land, planting, watering, weeding, applying approved fertilisers, harvesting crops and assisting with the general care and management of farm produce and equipment.
Farm Workers will also help to maintain clean and organised farm areas, monitor crops for pests or diseases and report any concerns promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
Poultry Workers
Poultry Workers will be responsible for the daily care and management of birds within the school's poultry unit. Responsibilities will include feeding and watering birds, cleaning and maintaining poultry houses, collecting and properly handling eggs, monitoring the health and welfare of birds and maintaining good hygiene and biosecurity standards.
Poultry Workers will also assist with record keeping, including feed usage, egg production, bird mortality and other relevant farm records, and promptly report any signs of illness, disease or unusual behaviour among the birds.
All successful candidates will be expected to work responsibly, follow instructions from the relevant supervisor or management, maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and contribute positively to the development of Preston International School's environment and agricultural initiatives.
Qualifications
- Practical knowledge or experience in gardening, farming, poultry production or a related agricultural field.
- Ability to carry out physically demanding outdoor work.
- Knowledge of basic plant care, crop cultivation, animal or poultry care, depending on the specific role.
- Ability to use and maintain basic gardening, farming or poultry equipment safely.
- Knowledge of hygiene, health and safety procedures.
- Good observation, organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Previous experience in a similar role will be an advantage.
- Relevant agricultural, horticultural or vocational training will be an added advantage.
