Preston's 16th Inter-House Sports Competition

The 16th Inter-house sports competition at Preston International school took place at the school's sports complex on Friday 17th February, 2023. It was a very successful and well organized event which was chaired by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Ondo State, Otunba Dele Ologun.

This annual event kicked off with an opening prayer by Mr. Oyeneyin, followed by the Anthems (National Anthem & School Anthem) and recitation of the National pledge accompanied by the School Band led by the Parade Commander – Mr. Ogunleye.
The school’s band opening parade ushered in the colourful and stellar march past by the four houses - Aqua House, Shekinah House, Terra House to Tornado House. At the end of the march past, Aqua house came 1st with 30 points, Terra house came 2nd with 25 points, Tornado house came 3rd with 20 points and Shekinah house came 4th with 15 points.
The Proprietor, Mr Toyin Ajayi in his opening speech reminiscence about houses that have claimed the inter-house sports competition trophy since the inception of Preston in 2006. He further shared the high value Preston places on extra-curricular activities.
The Chairperson for the occasion, Otunba Dele Ologunloluwa encouraged the school management, parents and students on the need to wholeheartedly trust in God, citing Phillipians 3:5-6 before formally declaring the sporting events open.
Amongst other events of the day were the 100m races, 200m races, 400m races, egg race, relay races, sack race, threading the needle, invitation relay races where the students gave in the best to ensure their house comes first.
Before the announcement of the final result, medals were presented to the best female athlete (Emuejevoke Inuma) and best male athlete (Anaughe Oghenefejiro) as well as invited schools, parents, staff members who participated in different races and had emerged 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions.
At the end of it all, Shekinah House clinched the 1st position with 852 points, followed by Aqua House with 813 points. Tornado House came 3rd with 802 points and Terra House took the 4th position with 758 points.
Congratulations to Shekinah house for winning the inter-house sports goat (a yearly gift from the Directors to the winners of the competition, a tradition introduced from the Directors' alma mater - Christ'sSchool, Ado-Ekiti) for their 'asun' party to be held upon resumption next half-term.
We hereby express our profound and special appreciation to some of our parents in the medical field who volunteered to support us with medical personnel, equipment and vehicles to ensure that the athletes and indeed every one of us there was well looked after. Thanks to Dr Mrs Williams-Daudu of MITEDA Hospital and Dr & Mrs Ikubese of SCKYE Hospital for their kind gestures. God bless you.

We are already looking forward to our 17th Inter-house Sports Day next year. In the meantime, we congratulate Shekinah House once again for emerging CHAMPIONS of the 16th edition.
