TEACHING POSITIONS

Early Years Teacher (EYFS)

Role Description

This is a full-time role for an Early Years Teacher at Preston International School, located in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. The teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective lessons, developing lesson plans and instructional materials tailored to meet the needs of young learners, and evaluating pupils' progress. The role involves creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where each child can thrive and implementing classroom management strategies to ensure a well-ordered learning atmosphere.

Qualifications

Experience in teaching young children, particularly in an early years/playgroup or similar setting
Proficiency in developing and implementing lesson plans and instructional materials

Primary 1 - 5 Teachers (Key Stages 1 & 2)

Role Description

This is a full-time teaching position for a Primary School Teacher (Primary 1–5) at Preston International Nursery and Primary School, Akure. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, purposeful and effective lessons that support pupils' academic, social, emotional, moral and personal development.

The teacher will deliver the school's curriculum across Key Stages 1 and 2, adapting teaching approaches, resources and learning activities to meet the varied abilities, learning styles and individual needs of pupils. The role requires a strong commitment to developing secure foundations in English, Mathematics, Science and other areas of the curriculum, while promoting curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, independence and a lifelong love of learning.

The teacher will establish a safe, inclusive, stimulating and well-organised classroom environment in which every pupil feels valued, respected and motivated to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will use effective classroom management strategies, formative and summative assessment, differentiated instruction and appropriate educational technology to maximise pupil progress and attainment.

The role also involves maintaining accurate records of pupils' progress, communicating effectively with parents and colleagues, contributing to the wider life of the school and participating actively in the school's Christian ethos, pastoral programme, co-curricular activities and community life.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging and appropriately challenging lessons in accordance with the school's curriculum and schemes of work.
Teach pupils effectively across Primary 1–5, taking account of the developmental characteristics and learning needs of Key Stages 1 and 2.
Develop pupils' foundational and progressive skills in literacy, numeracy, science, communication, reasoning, problem-solving and independent learning.
Differentiate teaching, learning activities and resources to meet the needs of pupils of different abilities, including high-achieving pupils and those requiring additional support.
Use a range of effective teaching and learning strategies to promote active participation, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.
Prepare high-quality lesson plans, teaching resources, learning materials and assessments.
Establish clear learning objectives and success criteria and communicate these effectively to pupils.
Assess, record and monitor pupils' attainment, progress and learning needs using appropriate formative and summative assessment methods.
Use assessment information to inform lesson planning, intervention and individual pupil support.
Provide constructive and timely feedback that enables pupils to understand how to improve their learning.
Maintain high expectations of pupil behaviour, effort, presentation and achievement.
Create a positive, inclusive and well-managed classroom environment that promotes respect, responsibility, kindness and cooperation.
Identify pupils who may require additional academic, pastoral or learning support and work collaboratively with relevant colleagues to provide appropriate interventions.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of attendance, assessment, behaviour, progress and other relevant pupil information.
Communicate professionally and regularly with parents and guardians regarding pupils' academic progress, behaviour, wellbeing and development.
Work collaboratively with other teachers, Heads of Department/Key Stage Leaders, pastoral staff and school leadership to promote consistency and high standards.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, training and other school improvement activities.
Integrate appropriate digital technologies and modern pedagogical approaches into teaching and learning.
Contribute to assemblies, educational trips, clubs, competitions, enrichment programmes and other co-curricular activities.
Support the school's safeguarding procedures and ensure the welfare and safety of pupils at all times.
Promote the school's Christian ethos and values through professional conduct, relationships, teaching and pastoral interactions.
Serve as a positive role model who demonstrates integrity, professionalism, respect, compassion and commitment to pupils.
Undertake reasonable additional responsibilities assigned by the Head of Primary or school leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

A Bachelor's degree in Education, Primary Education, or a related discipline from a recognised institution.
A recognised teaching qualification is highly desirable.
Proven experience teaching children at primary school level, preferably across Key Stages 1 and/or 2.
Demonstrable experience in planning and delivering high-quality lessons aligned with a structured curriculum.
Strong knowledge of effective primary teaching and learning practices, particularly in English and Mathematics.
Good understanding of child development and the educational, social and emotional needs of primary-age pupils.
Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.
Experience in developing, administering and analysing assessments to monitor pupil progress.
Ability to differentiate instruction and provide appropriate support and challenge for pupils with diverse learning needs.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to build positive and professional relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues and the wider school community.
Competence in using educational technology and digital learning resources to enhance teaching and learning.
Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative and professional teaching team.
Experience in a British, international or multicultural school environment will be an advantage.
Familiarity with the British Curriculum, Nigerian Curriculum, Cambridge Primary or other internationally recognised primary curricula will be an advantage.

House Parents (Male and Female)

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for House Parents at Preston International School, Akure. House Parents will oversee the day-to-day welfare and pastoral care of secondary school students, ensuring their safety, emotional well-being, and adherence to school rules. Responsibilities include supervising daily routines, providing guidance and counseling, maintaining discipline within the boarding house, and fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for students. House Parents will also act as role models, promoting good behavior, academic growth, and moral development in line with the school's values.

Maintenance Officers

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Maintenance Officer at Preston International School in Akure. The Maintenance Officer will be responsible for the upkeep, repair, and maintenance of school facilities, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for students and staff. Daily tasks include inspecting buildings, performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with external contractors under the leadership of the Head of Maintenance for specialised repairs.

Qualifications

Knowledge of general maintenance procedures and systems
Proficiency in performing repairs, troubleshooting, and equipment inspection
Good communication and organizational skills
Experience in a similar role or environment is beneficial
