2023 Anti-Bulling Week

Preston as a school with a zero-tolerance policy for bullying joined the rest of the world to cry out that bullying is not acceptable in our school, communities and homes in a week-long anti-bullying programme.

This year’s anti-bullying programme, which took place in the school chapel between the 13th March to 17th March, reiterated the school’s policy on bullying through speeches from both staff and students, drama presentation to depict real-life scenarios, musical presentations, walk around campaign, spoken words presentations and lots more.

This week-long programme which had the attendance of the Proprietress – Mrs. Funmi Ajayi, kicked off on Monday, with the opening speech from the school’s male counsellor – Mr. Bassey where he explained the kinds, effects and solutions of bullying. The school drama troupe on Tuesday, reiterated and hammered in the effects of bullying on the bullied as well as the bully during a drama presentation.

On Wednesday, the day kicked off with a walk around campaign led by the school band, where students and staff members displayed through singing and thought-provoking posters our collective stance on this matter. The Proprietress during her charge after the campaign, admonished the community on the importance of sharing and caring; citing a phrase "To Be a Buddy, Not a Bully". The event ended with a closing prayer by the Junior school coordinator, Mrs. Kemi Olubejide.

The day’s event wrapped up with a family bible study on the theme – Love, a cure to bullying. This began with an opening address by the senior school coordinator, Mrs. Funmi Ojo. Staff members and students were then distributed into pastoral family-based clusters for the study. The event was spiced up with a duet musical presentation by our nightingale singer, Terna Suur and our vocal soloist, Tejiri Fanougbo. The day was brought to a close by Mrs. Mary Adegbohun - the school’s head of admin with a closing remark which led to a whole school sing along of Hezekiah Walker and The Love Fellowship Choir rendition – I need you to survive.

The programme continued on Thursday, 16th March, with a video presentation on overcoming bullying. This also had poem recitations from the school’s female counsellor – Mrs. Temiloluwa Ogunjobi and some of our students, Sharon Ayodele, Oluwasemilore Ogungbayi, Oluwadunsin Olawumi, Emmanuel Gbe and Tofunmi Asebiomo. The day was brought to a close with a motherly advice by Mrs. Damaris Agbakwuru – Vice Principal Admin.

This week-long programme was wrapped up on Friday with speech presentations by the school’s assistant vice principal, Mr. Splendour Obajemihi - Why does bully occur?

The proprietor, Mr. Toyin Ajayi also shared Preston’s position on bullying. In his words, he commended the thoughtfulness and participatory spirit of everyone to make this annual event a successful one. He further encouraged that everyone be the doer of all what has been said; citing from the holy writ in James 1 vs 22 and John 13 vs 17.

Kudos to everyone.
